Status
Leeds DEC is an educational charity and public limited company.

Registered Charity Number: 1003862
Limited Company Number: 2627506

History
The Centre was originally established by Oxfam in 1978 and was based in a small room near Leeds University. Between 1988 and 2001 the Centre was located in two terraced houses on Cardigan Road after which it moved to its current location on Roundhay Road.

Leeds DEC worked in partnership with Oxfam until 1995 when a restructuring of the organisation led to a withdrawal of its regional staff. Leeds DEC was then grant funded by Oxfam to continue the provision of resources and training for teachers and youth workers in West Yorkshire.

Purpose
Leeds DEC works in partnership with international development agencies and local structures and organisations to raise greater awareness of international development issues amongst young people and adults in the UK.
