A set of five teaching activities looking at the
'rag trade' from the perspective of cotton farmers
in Tanzania. Hanging by a Thread uses participatory
activities to reveal the effect of world commodity
prices, international trade, environmental conditions,
national debt and the World Bank/IMF upon the lives
of farmers in the Meatu district in northern Tanzania.
Role play, simulations, ranking and visual literacy
exercises are used to promote discussion and develop
group skills.
