Overview of the project
The Project ‘EU Citizenship in a multicultural
Union’ was a year -long project funded by the
European Union. During the project Education Leeds,
International Leeds and Leeds Development Education
Centre worked on a programme of activity focused on
educating young people in Leeds about what it means
to be a European citizen in today’s diverse
society.

Project goal:
To make young people aware of their rights
and responsibilities as European citizens and issues
of justice and equality with respect to Europe and
the wider world.
Through a series of events and training seminars,
the project bought together NGOs, statutory sector
& education institutions in a programme designed
to provide teachers with the skills and resources
they need to teach young people about the importance
of citizenship in an ethnically diverse Europe.
A total of 44 schools received training through this
programme.
The project also created of a network of civil society
organisations has developed new trans-national partnerships.
