Educating for Global Social Justice
Background to the project
This EU-funded project is now in it's second year.
We are working with partner schools in Bulgaria,
Estonia, Slovenia, Latvia, and Portugal, to raise
awareness about the Millenium Development Goals
and Poverty Reduction. We are inviting
secondary schools to join us in this
inspiring project which supports cross-curricular
themes, as well as mainstream curriculum in all
subject areas.
The aim of the project is to support teachers with
training and resources to become more informed about
the real issues that underpin global poverty so
that they feel confident and inspired to incorporate
global social justice issues into their lessons.
The hope is that by the end of the project in June
2012, young people in the Education for Social Justice
School's will have greater understanding of the
causes of global poverty and will have become inspired
to take action to raise awareness in the wider community.
Currently 11 UK schools are involved, with a similar
number from each of our partner countries. Resources,
lessons, newsletters and student actions are available
on the project learning platform/moodle to schools
who join us. A conference is being held in Slovenia
in April 2012 to which some students and teachers
will be invited to share their experiences.
