Educating for a Global Future - Making the Most of the Global Dimension in the New Secondary Curriculum.

Overview of the Project

Educating for a Global Future is a national initiative which supports the progress of secondary schools towards delivering the global dimension in the curriculum. The project, funded by the DFID, aims to work with three hundred schools in seven government regions in England.

Description of the Project

This training-based approach will offer schools support in developing, designing and managing curricula which explore crucial development issues such as: Poverty Reduction and the Millennium Development Goals; Global Citizenship; and Social Justice and Globalisation. These could be delivered in a wide variety of curriculum areas and through cross-curricular themes and dimensions. A Global Dimension Self Evaluation Framework (SEF) will help to measure attitudinal change and progress made within the schools.

  • Inspirational global citizenship teaching, to help prepare young people to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
  • Opportunities to develop a better understanding of cultural diversity and equality.
  • Opportunities to develop critical thinking and analytical skills through interactive learning using cross-curricular themes and dimensions.
  • Opportunities for students to develop new perspectives and develop emotional literacy through meaningful and relevant lessons which explore global issues in their own communities and contribute to the debate about national policy and action throughout their lives.
