Earth Summit Project
From Earth Summit to School Action The
Earth Summit Project is working with Key Stage 2 in
nine primary schools in the Leeds
area.
It was inspired by the Second World Summit
on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg,
South Africa, in September 2002, where world leaders
got together to talk about the pressing issues for
people and planet at the beginning of the Third Millennium
(arguably, they didn't get much done). So, the primary
school children of Leeds, through the project, are
going to see if they can do any better!
Approximately 300 children in classes from the nine
schools attended an Earth Summit
to launch the project in Leeds Civic Hall on March
12th 2003.
Children had chosen particular issues to focus on
from the range discussed in Johannesburg and gave
presentations to share what they've found out with
others.
