Awareness for Fairness Project

Awareness for Fairness Project

Awareness for Fairness is an EU funded project which started in 2010 and will run to 2013. The objective of the project is to:

"Contribute to an increased public awareness and understanding of development issues- in particular fair trade and decent work, human rights, the social dimension of globalisation as well as the Millennium Development Goals 1, 7 and 8 (including changes to consumer behaviour.)"

Awareness for Fairness will:
• Set up and improve multi stakeholder networks (of teachers, Fairtrade activists, Fairtrade shops and organisations)
• Raise awareness with decision makers to anchor global learning in policies and strategies
• Train school teachers
• Train teachers in the Global Advocate Accreditation
• Train NGO multipliers
• Deliver classroom events on fair trade
• Deliver out of school events on fair trade
• Produce a Global Advocates exhibition
• Support schools to become Fairtrade Schools
• Raise awareness in the media and at external events

“Learning about fair trade has made the children more aware of life in different countries and the contrasts to their own lives. They have also gained understanding of how not everyone is treated fairly and that money often equates with power.”
